6th Grade Return to Learn Zoom Meeting 9:00 am

Dear New Kent Lion 6th Grade Families,

It is with great excitement that our school prepares to welcome 6th grade students back to the building and prepare our virtual 6th graders for continued learning. We have been working hard to ensure that our building and procedures provide a safe learning environment for all. Upon the approval from the School Board, we will be opening our doors once again on March 1st. We realize our families may have questions moving forward and we are preparing to have regular communication to offset any concerns you may have. With our return to in person instruction, there will be a shift in our time schedule to ensure safe transportation of our students on the buses. We have also had to adjust student schedules based upon request for hybrid or virtual instruction. Your student’s 2nd period teacher will be contacting you in the next couple of weeks to share your child’s schedule, welcome them to their class and verify that you are still interested in your child attending school in person.

Due to the high volume of requests for in person learning, we will be operating on a hybrid schedule for the remainder of the year. Students will be assigned an A or B day group. A day students will attend school on Monday and Wednesday. Tuesday and Thursday will consist of independent work that can be completed at home. B day students will attend school on Tuesday and Thursday and will complete asynchronous work on Monday and Wednesday. Friday will remain a check in day where students can receive extra support and remediation. Elective classes will also be a mixture of independent and in person learning. Our virtual students will continue to receive instruction and support so that their experience will be as engaging as possible.

We will be sharing a video of our procedures and to welcome our students back prior to in person learning. Our students that are in person will receive a school orientation on their first day back. More information will be coming soon on these activities. NKMS's administrative team will also be hosting virtual information sessions to share our mitigation efforts and more information about scheduling on Thursday, February 11th. We will have a 9am and 6pm virtual session available to parents. These sessions will be recorded and viewable through our website or Schoology if you are unable to attend.

We would like to remind you that all in person learners must wear a mask while in school. We are also requesting that you fill out the Clinic Medical Record Form, sign the COVID Agreement Form, and return both forms to school with your student on the first day they return. When completed, these forms ensure that students do not come to school with a fever or any other symptoms. We will be sharing these forms with you the week prior to their return.

Again we are excited about seeing our students in person and look forward to this new journey in the near future.

Sincerely,

New Kent Middle School
