7th Grade Information Session

Dear New Kent Lion 7th Grade Families,

It is with great excitement that our school prepares to welcome 7th grade students back to the building and prepare our virtual 7th graders for continued learning. We have been working hard to ensure that our building and procedures provide a safe learning environment for all. We will be opening our doors once again on March 22nd. We realize our families may have questions moving forward and we are preparing to have regular communication to offset any concerns you may have. We have needed to adjust student schedules based upon requests for hybrid or virtual instruction. Your child’s 1st period teacher will be contacting you in the next couple of weeks to share any changes to your child’s schedule and welcome your child to their class. Bus information will be mailed to families requesting transportation at a later time.

Due to the high volume of requests for in person learning, we will be operating on a hybrid schedule for the remainder of the year. Students will be assigned an A or B day group. A day students will attend school on Monday and Wednesday. Tuesday and Thursday will consist of independent work that can be completed at home. B day students will attend school on Tuesday and Thursday and will complete independent work on Monday and Wednesday. Friday will remain a check in day where students can receive extra support and remediation. Elective classes will also be a mixture of independent and in person learning. Our virtual students will continue to receive instruction and support so that their experience will continue to be as engaging as possible.

We will be hosting a student orientation which will include our procedures and to welcome our students on their first day back. Virtual students will also have an opportunity to participate in a virtual orientation. More information will be coming soon on these activities. NKMS's administrative team will be hosting virtual information sessions to share our mitigation efforts and more information about scheduling on Tuesday, March 9th. We will have a 9am and 5pm virtual session available to parents. If you are unable to attend, we will share our presentation through Schoology as well. As always, you are welcome to email Mrs. Gray or Mr. Wheeler with additional questions.

We would like to remind you that all in person learners must wear a mask while in school. We are also requesting that you fill out the Clinic Medical Record Form, sign the COVID Agreement Form, and return both forms to school with your student on the first day they return. When completed, these forms ensure that students do not come to school with a fever or any other symptoms. We will be sharing these forms with you prior to their return.

Again we are excited about seeing our students in person and look forward to this new journey in the near future.
