Principal's Message

Dear Lion Families,

I am grateful for the opportunity to lead New Kent Middle School in my second year as principal. We really “Took it to the Next Level” last year by focusing on building positive relationships with our students and families, engaging students in meaningful learning experiences, and meeting students' social and emotional needs. We also prioritized communicating effectively with our families on a consistent basis to increase trust and transparency. Our students did a fantastic job adapting to the full return to in person learning, and we are confident they are prepared to reach their full potential and accomplish all of their goals this upcoming school year.

We are proud to announce the theme for school year 2022-2023 is:

Reach for the S.T.A.R.S.

Solving Problems

Thinking Critically

Asking Questions

Researching

Sharing

The selected school theme is awesome because the word “stars” is an acronym for the skills we are looking to develop in our students to prepare them for the future and to be lifelong learners. “Reach for the S.T.A.R.S.” can also easily tie into the importance of goal setting and dreaming big. Credit goes to 7th Grade Student Lilith Featherston for providing the inspiration for our school theme by winning the overall school theme contest selected overall from both students and staff.

We have an incredibly dedicated staff here at New Kent Middle School that believes in taking a collaborative approach to planning and delivering high quality instruction for all students. We are committed to working with students to help foster a passion for learning and to prepare them for their future endeavors.

I look forward to continuing to work with our students, staff, families, and community to build a culture of perseverance, kindness, respect, and inclusiveness. I value feedback, and believe we are stronger as a school and as a community when we work together as a team.

Thank you for your support, and we are looking for an incredible school year.

Go Lions!

Mr. Frank Wheeler
